Fixing A Once in a Lifetime Sunrise, Using Hand Held HDR

A chance to go hot-air ballooning is rare enough, but the opportunity to do it over the 4,000 temples and pagodas in Bagan, Myanmar (Burma) is difficult to repeat. So when the picture perfect morning had too much contrast for my D700 I quickly shifted to using HDR hand-held from the balloon and the results saved the day. I've posted a step by step of what I did and how the images came out on the B&H Blog site. Enjoy!

Nikon D7000: “Consumer” Camera Angles for the Pro Market

Until this week Nikon had three different lines of D-SLR cameras. The “consumer” level cameras like the Nikon D5000 and Nikon D3100, “prosumer” models like the Nikon D300S and Nikon D700, and full up “pro” models like the Nikon D3S and Nikon D3X. Of course plenty of pros (like me) use prosumer and consumer models when they are the best fit for a project and plenty of “consumers” own a D3 family camera, but at least the three product lines had a fairly obvious set of distinctions. But with the D7000 Nikon has really blurred the line between consumer, prosumer and pro camera at the same time. Grand Canyon: North Rim or South Rim?


Having been to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon before we decided to spend a few days at the North Rim this trip. Especially since we are traveling in June which we knew would be packed full in both places. For those considering a trip there and wondering which to visit if you don’t have time for both here are our thoughts…

A Sad Day for Photography?

Today Nikon gave away $125,000 in prizes to two lucky contest winners. Awesome, right? The grand prize of $100,000 is one of the largest prizes for a single winner I've every heard of. Long live photography. Except that the winning entries weren't photographs...
