Get a Head Start on A New Lens for the New Year

With the new year I know many of you have new cameras and are thinking about new lenses. Some of the best advice I can give is to rent or borrow any expensive lens before shelling out a lot of money for it. If you have a local camera store sometimes they will credit rentals against an eventual purpose. Otherwise the best pricing and service for online rentals (and local if you're in the San Francisco area) is from borrowlenses. The good news is that they are offering 10% off their already very competitive prices. Just enter the coupon code 2010. If you get a chance tell them we sent you. Happy New Year!--David

Renting lenses has been great for me. Affording a 300mm f2.8 is pretty out of the question for me, but I rented one for 10 days, had it for two weekends of soccer tournaments, and enjoyed the hell out of it. I use lensrentals.com, but there are other places, too.

Thanks for the tip about

Thanks for the tip about lensrentals.com. Not all online rental places are equally good about making sure their gear is in full working order before shipping it so it's good to get personal referrals like yours.
